LAUREL Co., Ky. (WYMT) - State police officers say I-75 is one of the most traveled highways in Kentucky.

"Blue Lights Across the Bluegrass" is underway and aimed at slowing drivers down.

If you are driving over the speed limit officers say you will see their lights.

Troopers say they would rather write citations than work a crash.

One trooper said he wrote more than a dozen speeding tickets and expects that number to increase.

Kentucky State Police Officer Don Trosper says their priority is safety.

"Speeding is one of the leading contributing factors to crashes. By trying to get people to slow down we can try to curb those crashes that occur during the holiday periods," said Trosper.

Trosper says drivers can expect to see increased patrols throughout this weekend.
