Officials have identified the Knott County drowning victim as 20 year old Terry Combs.
They say he was found in 30 feet deep water, just 30 feet from the dam tower in Carr Creek Lake.
Park Ranger Kevin Wright, said all he heard were people yelling, but something told him that these were not the playful screams he's used to hearing at the lake.
“It was a feeling of dread. A pit in my stomach, you know you get that feeling that something bad is happening and unfortunately that's what it was,” said Ranger Wright.
Wright was the first to see 20 year old Terry Combs go down in the water.
“I was just in time to see this youngin’ down there struggling in the water. He went down and he came back up not quite to the surface then went down again and he was gone,” Wright said.
Search and rescue teams began looking for Combs Thursday around 4 o'clock.
It was just a young man out to have a good time and its tragic and he simply seemed to have exceeded his capabilities,” said Wright.
All after a sad end to what was supposed to be just another fun day at the lake.
Funeral arrangements for Combs are pending at Hindman Funeral Services.
