Bond set for man charged with murder

PIKEVILLE, Ky.(WYMT)-Bond is now set for a man charged with murder after a passenger in his vehicle died in a wreck.

The accident happened in March of last year in Pike county. William Akers was indicted last month on a murder charge.On Friday, Akers was in court for a bond hearing.

A twenty thousand dollar property bond was set. Police say Akers lost control of his Ford Explorer along US 119 near Buckley's Creek last March.

Coal truck driver Ralph Thacker tried to avoid Akers but the two collided, killing Thacker and injuring Akers and his wife.

Officials say Akers had a combination of narcotics in his bloodstream. He has a pretrial hearing scheduled for April 5.
