Hundreds gathered at A.B. Combs Elementary for a dedication ceremony for a fallen U.S. Marine.
Corporal Larry Wayne Napier grew up in Hazard and died of natural causes on April 24, 2011.

A bridge in Perry County was dedicated to him today near M.C. Napier High School on Highway 476 where he graduated in 1984.

His brother Lance Corporal Mike Napier, who is also a Marine said it was a great honor for his family to have his brother remembered in the community he grew up in. Napier said he believes Larry was watching.

“Larry had many friends and family growing up in a small community - it is great to see everyone here, a lot of people could not make it here today as it is a work day during the work week, but I think Larry would have really loved it and he is looking down, he is probably very happy, he has probably got the big head right now as we know Larry.”

Napier was 46 years old when he died of natural causes.

The Disabled American Veterans of Hazard, along with other United States Marines and Army soldiers participated in the ceremony.
