Buckhorn, Ky. (WYMT)-- Current and former employees joined members of the community to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the park's lodge.
The lodge's first desk clerk, Wayne Turner, came to help celebrate.
"On my way to work, I would pick four, five, or six cooks and workers and I'd bring them all the way to the lodge, and in the evening I'd take them back," said Turner.
As he remembered his days working at the park, he noted the memories others made.
"They take back a good memory of Eastern Kentucky. They come from Illinois, Michigan," said Turner.
Someone from inside the state was also impressed by the park on her first visit for the meeting of mayors.
Former Bowling Green mayor Elaine Walker now serves as Parks Commissioner.
"When I came to Buckhorn and just saw the lake and the trees and the beautiful area, I was stunned," said Walker.
Visitor Ed Whittaker has been visiting the park for most of the last five decades, he said.
"When this lodge was built, we had an opportunity to stay someplace other than with the family, so it was exciting for the kids," said Whittaker
