'Butler' to play in Elizabethtown for first time

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - One of the summer's top movies will play in Elizabethtown for the first time next month.

Historic State Theater Director Emily West told The News-Enterprise that "The Butler" will play for three days at the facility beginning on Thanksgiving Day.

The decision comes weeks after theater owner and Vietnam veteran Ike Boutwell, who owns the local theaters, refused to play the movie because one of the stars is Jane Fonda, who was an outspoken opponent of the conflict. Fonda portrays former first lady Nancy Reagan.

West says she respects Boutwell's decision, but felt residents should have a choice.

The movie about a butler who served eight U.S. presidents will have five showings from Nov. 28-30.
