Capilouto apologizes for confusion about layoffs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto is apologizing for confusion stemming from a recent announcement of layoffs.

The Lexington Herald-Leader ( ) says Capilouto sent a campus-wide email Wednesday that also provided more details about the layoffs.

Capilouto said in the email he has made transparency and candor a priority at UK and apologized for any confusion from the way changes have been communicated.

UK officials announced last week that 140 people, or about 1 percent of the workforce, would lose their jobs and another 164 positions wouldn't be filled. Current faculty haven't been affected.

The email said about 65 people in 18 colleges were laid off, and 38 were let go from UK Healthcare. Another 27 were in administrative and support units, and information on the other 10 wasn't available.
