Car accident kills one, critically injures another

A Bell County woman is dead and her sister who is eight months pregnant is critically injured after a car crash.

The wreck happened last night on Highway 66 in Bell County, near the Red Bird area.

Sheriff deputies say 23-year-old Sharon Shoffner was driving when the car went off the road and hit a tree.

She died at the scene.

27-year-old Crystal Wombles, who is pregnant, was airlifted to UT Medical Center in Knoxville.

"This unborn child, we just hope and pray, with emphasis on pray that it's okay, that both of them are, but losing a young citizen like this young lady, it's devastating. It breaks your heart," said Bell County Sheriff Bruce Bennett.

Deputies are still investigating what caused the crash.
