Ceremony honors fallen Kentucky firefighters

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky's fallen firefighters were remembered in a special ceremony on Wednesday. The event included a wreath laying at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Frankfort.

19-year-old Marcus Allen's name is on the memorial. He died in a crash on his way to his firehouse in 2001. His father says it's still a difficult loss to deal with.

"It doesn't get any better something you get accustomed to and realize that's the way it is," says Allen's father. "It still hurts at the same time it feels good that people still remember."

Christopher Stock's name was one of the last that's been added. He died of heart attack two years ago, while on duty. He was the father to twin boys and a little girl. No new names have been added to the wall recently, which Stock's wife says is a relief.

"Nothing makes me happier to know that we have managed to go two full years without having to add another name," says Stock's wife.

This weekend, 81 firefighters who have died in the line of duty across the country will be honored in Maryland.
