LONDON, ky – Hundreds of people entered the Chicken Invasion Competition at the World Chicken Festival.
120 display chickens ruled the roost at the Chicken Invasion Friday, September 29th
“We feel this is a fun community art project bringing chickens to the chicken festival and showcasing our talent from throughout the community and the region,” said Chris Robinson, Director of London Downtown.
Each decorated and sculpted chicken that came from a local business or school got a chance to win up to $2,500.
“There's a lot of competition, a lot of good stiff competition, and everybody here's a winner in my book,” said wood carver Bob
Sowders.
Local artists used materials that ranged from forks to chicken wire.
“I think it's something just thinking that those children and even adults, can come up with that many variations with the same piece of wood,” said Sowders
However, rain showers proved that some of the chickens aren't waterproof.
“Sometimes I think that live chickens would be easier because you don't have to worry about them being out in the rain. These are a little testy,” said Robinson.
Rain or shine, the chicken with the most votes will win the invasion prize.
