Child electrocuted, up to 8 others injured at Cherokee Lake

Officials say one child was electrocuted and up to 8 others were shocked near the German Creek Boat Dock on Cherokee Lake.

Initial reports from the scene were that two children were killed, but officials with the TWRA said one of the children was revived.

Sheriff Scott Layel said at least 6 other people were injured, including adults, when they were either getting out of a boat or coming in from swimming.

The Grainger County EMA Director, Jeffrey Atkins, said there were 4 children swimming in between house boats at the Marine, when a woman noticed two of the children were unconscious.

She jumped in to help and told Atkins that's when she felt an electrical surge and got back out.

They evacuated the boat dock and turned the power off to the area. Right now Atkins says a faulty generator may be the cause.

The injured were taken to Morristown-Hamblen Health System.

We are following this story and will have the latest tonight at 11.
