KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT)- Knox County dispatchers tell WKYT that they'd gotten frantic 9-1-1 calls from drivers on Christmas Eve in the moments before police say David Vanderpool hit another car head-on.

Dispatchers have released the 9-1-1 call from the woman who was first to see the aftermath of the crash that killed five people on Christmas Eve.

Caller: uh, yes. There's been a car wreck.
Dispatcher: where?
Caller: been a car wreck. A ad car wreck.
Dispatcher: where?
Caller: at 930. Right at Flat Lick School.

Police say callers had just reported Vanderpool's silver, Ford Taurus station wagon weaving along Highway 25 E. Police say he crossed the center line and hit a Toyota Camry driven by Gary Caldwell. Police say Caldwell, his wife Patricia and their daughter and her husband were all killed in the crash. Police say Julia Robinson and her husband Brent were visiting from Florida.

Dispatcher: ok, honey. What kind of vehicle it it?
Caller: I don't know. It's like, smoke. One of them is up on the guardrail.
Dispatcher: is one of them a silver car? Like a station wagon?
Caller: like, it's on fire. It's on fire.
Dispatcher: you have a fire also?
Caller: yes.

Vanderpool was driving on a suspended license according to police. His mother says he should have been in jail on Christmas Eve, but had been let out on probation.
