HINDMAN, Ky (WYMT) - Thursday many families will be enjoying Thanksgiving with turkey, ham, stuffing and all the works.

First Baptist Church of Hindman in Knott County made sure some needy families will get to celebrate Thanksgiving in that same way.

It's called the Thanksgiving Food Box Ministry, and church members fill up boxes full of Thanksgiving staples.

The ministry is run out of the church's food pantry, but also this year they were able to put a $10.00 gift certificate in every box so families could also buy a turkey or ham to go along with their meal.

"Our small food pantry is strapped most of the time. We try to run it all year long, but especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas," said Pastor Mike Caudill.

But, he says his church always finds a way to give even when times are tough.

"You talk about thankfulness all the time, but when you actually see the thankfulness on someone's face and you see the appreciation there, and then you are thankful for the opportunity to take this to someone and meet a need," said youth pastor Steven Bell.

The church gave out the boxes on Tuesday and Wednesday, and they will also be giving out the boxes for Christmas.
