Around the world, good Friday ceremonies are taking place including right here in the mountains.

It has become a Good Friday tradition

Those with the Hindman United Methodist Church walk from the Perry County line all the way to the Floyd County line with a cross.

Church Pastor Rob Hoffman hopes the walk will remind people about the real reason for celebrating the holiday.

"Setting this day aside is something special and taking a break from our normal schedule and just doing something to be associated with the cross today is important for us,” Pastor Hoffman said.

Although they want to remind people about the real meaning of Easter those here today say this walk isn't about public witness.

"Jesus had to carry his own cross to his death and I wanted to be able to experience that, I’m sure you know this isn't nearly what he had to carry but it symbolizes what he had to do,” Tate Cox said.

They say this twenty mile journey gives them an idea of what Christ went through for us.
