Circuit judge faces misconduct charges next week

The top judicial official in Harlan County will go before the state's Judicial Conduct Commission next week.

Harlan Circuit Judge Russell D. Alred will face a number of misconduct charges at a hearing in London starting Monday morning.

Three charges were dismissed in July, but seventeen are still pending.

Numerous attorneys and other officials in Harlan County have been subpoenaed to testify during the three day hearing.

Mountain News requested an on-camera interview, but Alred declined our request on Friday. Alred said he welcomes the public to attend the hearing.

If found guilty of misconduct, the panel could remove him from the bench.
