Officials with the City of Buckhorn are giving $6,000 to their local fire department.

Fire Chief Randy Gabbard says this the first year the city has allocated funds to the department, a trend he hopes will continue.

"This is the first time the city has had the extra funds to help us along and we're hoping it's going to be a yearly thing. Also, they're talking about helping us buy a fire truck in the future." Gabbard told Mountain News.

Gabbard says this years funds will go toward new extinguishers, gear, chainsaws and other necessary supplies.
