City of Pikeville preparing for coal mine safety competition

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The City of Pikeville is preparing for coal mining teams from across the country to participate in the first Hatfield-McCoy Coal Mine Safety Competition.

Organizers say there will be more than 300 folks participating with 35 total teams.

"The City of Pikeville has always been a supporter of coal and that will continue. We are just proud they are here," says city commissioner Jerry Keith Coleman.

The event is being held at Bob Amos Park. Competition begins on Tuesday and runs through Thursday.
