Coal Miner's Classic tips off

Posted: Fri 11:52 PM, Dec 16, 2011

The Coal Miner's Classic tipped off Friday night at Hazard's Memorial Gym.

The event features some of the top basketball teams in the state, but organizers say what's happening off the court is more important.

A food drive will benefit needy families in Perry County.

There is a friendly contest between rivals Perry Central, Buckhorn and Hazard high schools as to who can bring in the most cans of food.

Coal Mining Our Future is sponsoring the event, which will continue Saturday night at the John C. Combs Arena.
