HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - The Perry County Wellness Coalition formed around one year ago and they say they want to create a comprehensive wellness community.

A meeting was held at the Perry County Library to assess what the community would like to see included in a wellness center.

Folks brought up some concerns and coalition members said they think it could help residents.

"People were interested and they feel like there are not a lot of options for them in terms of wellness or fitness right now and they would like to see more," said Allison Tse, an Office of Surface Mining VISTA through Americorps and feasibility study committee member.

Tse said they had done 450 surveys and two focus groups already.
"They showed us that people are interested in it, there is that community interest as well as the fact that there are a lot of health problems in the county right now."

People voiced concerns about wanting to have a facility that was low cost, family-oriented and one that would operate during several hours. Many expressed a need for comprehensive wellness such as nutrition education. Others said they would like for people to be able to entice some to come there.
