Community pays tribute at DUI victim's viewing

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT/WSAZ) - Don't drink and drive.

They’re words everyone's heard over and over, but now for loved ones of a young man killed on the road, those words mean everything.

C.J. Mollett, only 18 years old, was on his motorcycle Friday night on Route 201 in Wittensville. About 8:30 p.m., investigators say a woman under the influence hit him head on.

Investigators say that woman, Myra Castle, admitted to drinking vodka earlier in the day.

Loved ones got together Monday for Mollett’s viewing at Boones Camp Freewill Baptist Church in Johnson County.

Friends say Mollett was an avid outdoorsman, and he left Johnson Central High School early to begin working as a coal miner.

"Driving by it (the site of the crash) every day is so hard," Mollett’s friend Alexandria Adams said.

"I would like her to know how much pain she has caused us,” the victim’s grandmother Brenda Mollett said, “what loss we have in our hearts over alcohol. She has caused us so much pain and grief."

"She has destroyed our lives,” Mollett’s other grandmother Diana Holt said. “We will never ever be the same again."

Mollett’s family is hoping his legacy and the memory of what happened to him out on the road will help convince people never to get behind the wheel when they've been drinking, sparing other families this kind of heartache.

Mollett's viewing continues Tuesday.

His funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boones Camp Freewill Baptist.

Friends will wear camouflage and ride to the cemetery on ATVs as a tribute to his love for the outdoors.

Castle is charged with aggravated DUI. Investigators say more charges could be filed.
