Community mourns death of Wayne County, WV magistrate

Heavy hearts and black ribbons filled the hall of the Wayne County Courthouse Tuesday after the death of a Magistrate and friend.

Wayne County Magistrate Teddy Mays, 47, died in his home Monday afternoon of an apparent heart attack, according to courthouse employees.

Mays was found in his home approximately 9:30 Monday night by a friend. Officials say Mays died sometime Monday afternoon. He was supposed to attend his daughter's elementary school graduation at noon and never made it.

Mays leaves behind four children. One is graduating from Wayne High School Tuesday night.

Mays was in his eighth year as Magistrate.
