Community organization formed to help Bell flood victims

A committee of community leaders and churches have come together to help those affected by the June flooding in Bell County.

The new organization is called the Middlesboro-Bell County Long Term Recovery Committee.

The city of Middlesboro took on feet of water and mud during the storms.

It's still unknown if FEMA will provide assistance to individual homeowners.

In the meantime leaders hope this organization will help with flood related expenses.

"Some folks from church groups, from other faith based groups, they have decided to come together with other leaders and say we have got to do something for this community," said Brian O'Brien, with WRIL-FM.

You can apply for assistance at the Bell-Whitley Community Action Agency in Pineville. Their phone number is 606-337-3044.

The organization hopes to set up an office in Middlesboro.
