Congressman Hal Rogers recognized Kentucky State Senate Majority Leader Robert Stivers at an event put on by Operation UNITE on Thursday.
Rogers said he was impressed by efforts made to pass the so-called "pill mill bill" during the recent special session.
“I wanted to say to him thank you for a tremendous effort in the state legislature, leading the fight to cut back on the pill mills and the meth lab provisions of the law,” said Rogers.
“In many cases, he was standing alone in leadership, he and senator Tom Jensen led all the way through against tremendous odds.”
Rogers presented Stivers with a plaque at “The Dionysus Project” event designed to bring celebrities into eastern Kentucky to talk about addiction.
Rogers said there was nearly $2 million put into Kentucky by the pharmaceutical industry to try and defeat that legislation.
