CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WYMT/WSAZ) - Consol Energy says nearly 150 workers in West Virginia will be off the job before the end of the year, all over a permit dispute with the EPA.
Consol planned to mine a 5-mile stretch of land, then turn it over to the state for continued paving of the King Coal Highway in southern West Virginia.
The EPA has raised concerns about that project's impact on local streams.
There's no word yet on what this means for the highway.
