WYMT Severe Weather Alert

Construction workers endure cold weather

Updated: Wed 7:18 PM, Jan 23, 2013

PIKEVILLE, Ky (WYMT) - If you have walked outside the past two days, you have definitely noticed the below freezing temperatures.

On Tuesday, we were in the teens and Wednesday in the 20's.

Those temperatures combined with the wind made for a rough few days especially for those working outside.

Workers on a construction site in Pikeville say the cold temperatures slow them down.

"All the stuff we are doing is fine motor skills. We are making up boxes and putting wires together," said Carl Nelson.

Within minutes of being outside, these workers say the temperatures start taking their toll.

"It's when you stop for five minutes, when you get cold and don't want to get moving again," said Jason Crisafulli.

Workers say they have tricks to help them stay warm like using hand warmers and keeping their face covered.

But no matter what the weather is, workers say they will find someway to keep going.

"We put our heads down, and we go to work because the job's gotta get done," said Nelson.

It does not look like people who work outside will get much relief soon, we are expecting some snow this Friday.
