KNOTT Co., Ky. (WYMT) - There was an emotional hearing for a grief stricken mother on Thursday.
Jennifer Lawson is the mother of 30-year-old Eric Fugate.
Lawson confronted Jerry Combs. The man who is convicted of stabbing her son to death in 2012.
Jerry Combs will spend the next 18 years in prison.
Through tears, Fugate's mother begged for answers. Answers she said she may never get.
"I take it one day at a time," Lawson said. "People say it gets easier, but right now it doesn't get any easier."
She knows her son will never come home again.
Lawson said a letter she read in court helped with the healing process.
"It helps a little bit," said Lawson. "Saying what I said here in this letter helped me a whole lot."
She said her son got a long with everybody.
"Eric was a great person," Lawson said. "He had no enemies, everybody loved him, thought the world of him and he worked everyday of his life."
Police said this started with an argument.
"Well that was the sad part about it," Lawson said. "He knew my son and they were friends."
She said she does not think she will ever really know why.
Lawson said when officials release more evidence she will get the closure she is looking for.
