Conway signs letter against robo-calls to cells

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway is joining with colleagues from other states in asking Congress to oppose allowing businesses to place automated calls to cell phones.

The attorneys general are asking members of Congress to reject a resolution that Conway says would prevent attorneys general from enforcing state laws against junk faxes, prerecorded calls or text messages.

A statement from Conway's office says the calls would affect phone customers who pay by the minute or have a limited number of minutes and could present a hazard to drivers who may become distracted.

More than 50 attorneys general have signed the letter.
