WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - The Letcher County Courthouse received minor structural damage during Saturday’s earthquake.
In the heart of Whitesburg, at the Letcher county courthouse, not only did the windows rattle but cracks were made from the ground to the ceiling.
“It's a lot of damage and what kind of concerns me we have some cracks on the corners and that means they're taking weight,” said Letcher County Judge Executive Jim Ward.
The jail walls were cracked from the ceiling to the floor.
Holes were made in the courtroom walls, and cracked tiles scattered the floors.
Officials said repairs will begin soon, but were concerned about a few areas of damage.
However, courthouse was not the only building where new cracks were being found.
“I haven't looked around yet but I think a few other businesses around got some damage so I'm going to make sure to look and see if I got any,” said Kelvin Eldridge of Bella Home Furnishings.
The courthouse was inspected and is still considered safe.
