Crash kills one woman and injures pregnant woman

A Bell county woman is dead and her sister who is eight months pregnant is critically injured after a car crash.

Sheriff deputies say the wreck happened Wednesday night at 7:15 on KY-66 in Bell County, near the Red Bird area.

Sheriff deputies say 23 year old Sharon Shoffner of Beverly was driving when the car went off the road and hit a tree. She died at the scene.

27 year old Crystal Wombles, who is pregnant, was airlifted to UT Medical Center in Knoxville. Deputies say she is listed in critical condition.

"This unborn child, we just hope and pray, with emphasis on pray, that it's okay, that both of them are, but losing a young citizen like this young lady, it's devastating. It breaks your heart," said Bell County Sheriff Bruce Bennett.

Deputies are still investigating what caused the car to go off the road and strike the tree.
