BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) Festival season is a time for folks to come together and celebrate. In Barbourville, it's also a time to educate.

The Daniel Boone Festival kicked off Wednesday with arts and craft shows and the settlement of the primitive camp.

The campers live in the camp all week, bringing even more authenticity to the town.

Officials say they try to make everything as genuine as possible. From costumes, food, the camp and old fashioned demonstrations, trying to recall the days when Daniel Boone came through.

Officials say they promote Daniel Boone education because many folks don' realize how important the explorer was.

Two of the festivals biggest traditions, the feast and the the signing of the cane tree, will take place Friday evening.

The festival winds down Saturday with the parade in downtown Barbourville.
