Felicia Elsea and her family have lived off US 460 in Magoffin County for about 20 years. In that time, they've seen three deadly wrecks on the curve right outside their house. Wednesday was another.
Rescue crews say a mother and her passenger, her four-year-old daughter, were driving towards Salyersville when the mother ran off the side of the road, over corrected, and collided with a van driving the opposite direction.
"This is not the first time this has happened with people that we know here that's wrecked. I think they need a guardrail around this curve down here because when it rains I don't know what it is, it's just slick," said Elsea.
Elsea went on to say the mother and her daughter are well known in Salyersville and from a family the community respects and loves. The Magoffin County coroner has not yet released the name of the daughter.
"They're all very religious. I go to church with them and so it's just a very unfortunate accident for a very loving family," said Magoffin County Rescue Captain Carter Conley, "the child was in a restraint seat. There was nothing else could have been done. It was properly done the right way it's just unfortunate coincidence, accident happened like that."
