Bond is set at one million dollars cash for a Martin County man charged with murder and DUI.
State police say Sherman "Doug" Perry hit and killed 40 year old Fred Marcum on Saturday.
On Monday police re-created the wreck.
State Police spent hours recreating a wreck they say happened in just seconds.
Troopers say 40 year old Fred Marcum and Robin Perry were on their way to her parents house on Highway 2032 Saturday, but never made it.
Police say evidence shows 38 year old Sherman "Doug" Perry crossed the center line on Highway 2032 and crashed into the truck head on. His truck caught fire but he escaped.
In the other truck, Fred Marcum died at the scene. Robin Perry suffered serious injuries.
Police believe Perry was driving under the influence of drugs.
“There were several field sobriety tests and other information we received through our investigation,” Detective Richard Russell said.
State Police charged Perry with murder, assault, and DUI.
“Being under the influence in a motor vehicle and taking another human's life. You've intentionally operated that vehicle at that point and you've caused the death of another person.
Investigators tracked the path of both trucks on Highway 2032 to try to determine what happened seconds before the crash. Police do not know where Perry was before he got behind the wheel.
“He couldn't give us a statement as to where he was going or coming from. That's still under investigation at this point as well,” Detective Russell said.
Perry is due in court on Tuesday morning.
The funeral is Tuesday morning at eleven.
