Hazard, Ky. (WYMT)- A Hazard pediatric dentist is hoping to keep his patients' teeth healthy by buying back their Halloween candy.
The candy will go to troops overseas, said Dr. Andrew Farmer.
"This is a way for us to let kids understand that eating less candy is always better than more," said Dr. Farmer.
He also said it is a good learning experience for the kids he treats.
"It's a good way for us to support our troops, and to teach the next generation to support others and to give back."
Avoiding tooth-decaying sweets also helps oral health into the future.
"If there's prevalent tooth decay in baby teeth, it's a good indicator that they will also have decay in their permanent teeth and future treatment will be needed later on in life," he said.
Dr. Farmer's office will only be buying back candy from patients of record at his dental practice.
