Deputy is laid to rest

Updated: Fri 9:33 PM, Jan 27, 2012

Family and friends of Sheriff's Deputy James Thacker gathered together Friday to honor his memory and celebrate his life.

Hundreds of people from all across the county were here to honor a man who they say paid the ultimate price.

He gave his life to serve his community.

One by one, police filed in to pay respects to fallen Pike County Sheriff's deputy James I. Thacker.

“He was a good deputy. He did a good job for us,” Deputy Bert Hatfield said.

Deputy Thacker lost his life serving Pike County. The sheriff said he dedicated his life to helping others.

“This is a sad day for Pike County. There is a void there that will never be filled,” Darrell Mullins said.

Friends remembered him for his sense of humor, loving heart, and service to Pike County.

Police from all over the country filed outside to honor Thacker's sacrifice and give him his last call.

They say his service and smile will never be forgotten.

The processional was miles long to escort him to his final resting place.
