Divers find body, car in pond

Posted: Wed 12:13 AM, Jun 29, 2011

He was filling in for a sick co-worker when he drove home, and never made it. Officials have identified the victim whose car was found in a Rowan County pond. He's 49-year-old Frank Christeson. The pond is off Cranston Road near Morehead.

"We had an employee that wasn't feeling well, Frank wanted to work so he came in for that," said Christeson's boss at the Huddle House, Darrell Littleton.

The Rowan County Coroner tells us Christeson had clocked out at the Huddle House just after midnight for a scheduled break. Shortly after, his car skidded off Cranston Road and crashed into a pond. Tuesday morning, a volunteer firefighter noticed something wrong with the hydrant beside the pond, then noticed tire tracks going right into it. A dive team recovered Christeson's body, inside the car they pulled out of the pond late Tuesday afternoon.

"A lot of people knew Frank, a lot of people loved Frank. Very instrumental in our lives," said Littleton.
