Dog found dead, mouth taped shut

The body of a dog was found dead on Tuesday, January 18, at the westbound on-ramp of I-64 heading toward Hwy 801.

The young, white, female pit bull mix was found by the local animal rescue group, Saving the Animals of Rowan County (S.T.A.R.). Foul play is suspected because the dog’s muzzle was bound in duct tape and because of the overall condition of the body. A full necropsy will be conducted.

A $3,500 reward is being offered by The Humane Society of the United States for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the death of the animal.

If you have any information you're asked to call Deputy Ruford Abner with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department at 606-784-5546.
