Dolly Parton's Imagination Library comes to Whitesburg

An organization that gives free books to children under five-years-old is making it's way into eastern Kentucky.

The Rotary Club of Whitesburg has teamed up with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

The program kicked off Thursday night at the Letcher County Rec Center.

The program is open to any child under the age of five.

The first 50 kids to arrive at the kick off celebration will receive a free book.

For those that sign up for the program, they will receive a free book every month until they are five-years-old.

"Our goal for the Imagination Library is to increase the reading scores in the schools, and there are several schools that will be impacted by this," said Whitesburg's Rotary Club President Margaret Hammonds.

To register, kids must live in the Whitesburg area zip code 41858.

For more information call Margaret Hammonds at 606-633-8200.
