Dozens of hikers rescued from Pine Mountain

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Several dozen hikers are recovering, after being rescued in Eastern Kentucky.

The Letcher County Fire and Rescue Squad said 40 hikers went missing Thursday night on Pine Mountain. Several volunteer fire departments were called in to assist the search.

The Mayking Volunteer Fire Department says the hikers are college students from La Salle University in Pennsylvania. Officials say the search began around 7:00 p.m. and wasn't complete until about 3:30 Friday morning.

Rescue crews said all 40 hikers were taken to ARH Whitesburg. Five of the hikers needed to be treated for exposure.
