WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - There was no April Fools joke during a Whitley County drug round-up.

At least twelve people were taken away in police cruisers during the sting on Monday.

The Whitley County Sheriff says it is no coincidence the arrests happened on April 1st. He said the deputies thought April Fools' Day was the best time to make the arrests.

Whitley County Sheriff's Deputies and Constables gave at least a dozen people an early Monday morning wake-up call.

"They told me they had an arrest warrant for me," said Dewey Wilson who was arrested.

Deputies had warrants for twenty people accused of dealing either prescription pills or marijuana. The undercover investigations started eight months ago and led to the April 1st round-up.

"We decided to call it 'April Foolish Day,'" said Sheriff Colan Harrell.

Deputies say they found ten guns at suspect Johnny Blakely's home. Investigators say as a convicted felon, the 49-year-old Blakely is not allowed to have weapons. Deputies turned them over to the ATF and say federal charges are possible. Blakely did not talk with us.

At the Whitley County Courthouse, deputies booked the drug suspects one by one. In an interview with WYMT, Dewey Wilson claimed he was innocent.

"I'm disabled. I do have drugs but I don't sell them," said Wilson.

Deputies say they are not fools this April 1st and claim to have proof on each accused dealer.

"We have confiscated more illegal drugs and several illegal weapons. It's been a good morning for the good guys so far," said Sheriff Harrell.

Each suspect faces drug trafficking charges.

Sheriff Harrell says they are still searching for several suspects. Deputies says they are checking other counties and Tennessee for the other suspects.
