This day has been years in the making.
Tonight, the EKU Center for the Arts will hold its grand opening, with a gala celebration.
The new facility, on the Eastern Kentucky University campus in Richmond, will allow EKU to bring in some of the top names in entertainment, as well as other cultural and special events to central Kentucky.
The facility is the result of years of cooperation and determination, involving EKU, local governments, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The facility cost more than $30 million.
The first year's list of entertainment includes Wynonna Judd, Aretha Franklin, Peter Frampton, Willie Nelson, and the Moscow Ballet.
The EKU Center for the Arts is also vying for one of the 2012 Presidential Debates.
