EKY man honored by National Weather Service

MANCHESTER, Ky (WYMT) - One eastern Kentucky man was honored Thursday by the National Weather Service.

Robert Watts who works at Lilly Cornett Woods received the John Campanius Holm Award.

Of the 11,000 cooperative weather observers in the U.S., Watts and only 13 others received this award.

Watts volunteers every day to send weather observations to the national weather service.

"You don't have to call and ask how much it snowed, how much it rained because you get it every morning at 7 am," said Watts.

"Robert is amazing. In 38 years he has never even missed a day of observation, not even to take a vacation," said Shawn Harley with the National Weather Service in Jackson, Ky.

Watts and several others attended an awards ceremony at Eastern Kentucky University's Manchester's campus Thursday morning.
