EKY school keeping memory of student killed in crash alive

PERRY COUTNY, Ky. (WYMT) The stage is where many say Shaughn Morgan shined the brightest.

“When we did a comedy, he truly transformed into who he was,” Perry County Central High School Drama Program Director Phil Neace said.

The PCCHS alum was instrumental in the school’s drama department, where he helped create the Commodore Player Drama Program.

His life was cut short in 2010 after a car crash in the Dwarf community. Shaughn was 22.

“It was literally like, him especially, because he was a founder of this company. It was like losing one of my own,” Neace added.

The program is now using Shaughn’s memory to help others by creating a scholarship in his name, funded only by donations.

The program also remembers Shaughn by honoring him with a chair in the house of the theater.

“There are a lot of ghosts in every theater, and his just makes this place a little more brighter,” Neace said.

Donations to the scholarship can be made to "Shaughn Morgan Memorial Award" and sent to Perry County Central High School, 305 Park Avenue, Hazard, KY 41701.
