Eastern Ky. gas distributor asks for rate increase

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Public Service Commission is considering a request from a natural gas distributor in eastern Kentucky that wants to increase customer rates.

If they are approved, the new rates and two new surcharges would raise utility bills for Kentucky Frontier Gas Company's customers. The supplier has about 3,400 customers who mostly live in Floyd, Magoffin and Pike counties.

Kentucky Frontier is asking to equalize rates for customers, which will provide revenue to improve operations. The company is also asking to add surcharges totaling $2.25 to customers' monthly bills.

The Public Service Commission will hold a hearing on the matter on Feb. 14 in Frankfort. The public will be allowed to give comments at the hearing and it can also be viewed on the PSC website, www.psc.ky.gov.
