FLOYD COUNTY/KNOTT COUNTY, KY. (WYMT) - Thousands remain without water in several areas, including communities in Floyd and Knott counties.

With nothing running from their faucets, folks in the Mud Creek area say they are desperate. Virginia Reynolds says, "Have to go to the creek and bail water out of the creek, pack it up a hill and then up the stairs into my trailer."

It is a familiar story throughout Floyd County and over into Knott County where Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officers delivered several cases of water from Christian Appalachian Project to a Gold Years Rest Home.

Conservation Officer Eric Thomas says, "Seems like everyone is pitching in....mountain people always seem to come together in time of need."

The situation is causing concern for firefighters as they wonder what will happen if fire breaks out in one of these areas.

Greg Davis, with David Area Volunteer Fire Department says, "We just got this pumper truck that can provide 3,800 gallons of water...I want all fire departments in this county to know we'd be glad to bring this truck to you if you need it."

Truck after truck, David Fire Department is delivering water out to communities, but as they are down about 30 cases they are asking folks to come use their station's water source which is not impacted.

Randy Davis says, "We have offered to fill anyone's containers with good drinking water or water to cook with or whatever...anyone in need." They are offering this for anyone, not just those in the David area.

The Mud Creek Volunteer Fire Department is also offering for folks to come fill up jugs of water at their station.

When we spoke to the Southern Water and Sewer District earlier this week they said they are working on the problem and do not know exactly when the water problem will be fixed.
