Surveillance video shows on Tuesday, a man with a metal pipe robbing the Cash Express in Estill County.
Wednesday, state police say an someone recognized the robber from the video shown on the news and flagged down a trooper in Barbourville. The man said the suspect was 33 year old Danny Patterson and said he saw him on Route 11.
"He was originally from Knox County; however, he's not been here in several years. We had information from a family member that he had showed up the night before, which would've been Tuesday night, just out of the blue, hadn't seen him in years, and wanted a place to stay," said Trooper Shane Jacobs.
Police say Patterson hid from them in a home on Route 11 before they arrested him. A truck matching the robbery description was also found hidden outside the home.
"It appeared he was trying to flee from Estill County, trying to hide out for several days," said Trooper Jacobs.
Police say Patterson also had a large amount of cash on him.
Patterson originally agreed to do a jailhouse interview with us. However, when we got to the jail, he changed his mind and would not talk to us.
The woman who lives in the home where he was found did not answer the door when we knocked.
Troopers arrested Patterson on outstanding warrants in Knox County. State police in Richmond are filing the robbery charges.
