A new Evarts police program called "Cops 4 Kidz" starts on Saturday.

Police officers are taking forty children fishing at Martins Fork Lake.

The officers collected money in the community and bought all of the kids fishing poles.

Other businesses are providing food for the all day event.

The officers say they are doing this to be positive role models for children.

The program is designed to teach children new activities and help them become future leaders.

"This is something that may impact a child and he's never going to forget that. This is something he's going to remember for the rest of his life, fishing with a cop," said Lupe Blas, Evarts Police Chief.

"Cops 4 Kidz" fishing event is Saturday 8:00-4:00 at Martins Fork Lake in Harlan County.

Evarts police are already planning other events for the future.
