Event held to honor grandparents in Perry County

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - National Grandparents Day was earlier this month, but Friday was a day for grandparents in Perry County.

Friday was the ninth annual Grandparents Celebration Day and it was held at Perry County Park in Hazard. The event was presented by the Perry County Family Resource Centers and the Kentucky River Area Development District. Granparents Celebration Day is designed to honor grandparents who are raising their grandchildren in Perry County. Organizers say the date of the event is not a coincidence.

"Some of the families that come in for this event are lower income, so we want to continue to have the day so we can offer them free fun on Black Gold Friday," said Stacie Noble, an organizer of the event.

Agencies which folks in the area can benefit from handed out information at the event, as well as prizes!
