RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - A former Eastern Kentucky University student accused of setting two fires at the campus has pleaded guilty to amended charges.
The Richmond Register (http://bit.ly/W5VHUd) reports 20-year-old Samuel McFarland of Williamsburg was originally charged with arson in the case, but pleaded guilty to criminal mischief, wanton endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.
Police say he set two hallway bulletin boards in his dorm on fire and endangered the lives of building residents. The buildings were evacuated, and no one was injured.
Prosecutor Jennifer Smith recommended a three-year sentence that would be diverted as long as McFarland follows terms of the plea agreement over five years.
Formal sentencing was set for Feb. 7.
