The name of a Whitley County Deputy Jailer will be placed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. during a candle light vigil on May 13th.

Turnkey Joe Tuggle was killed while on duty in October of 1940.

He was taking William Elliott from his cell to meet a visitor, when Elliott grabbed his gun and shot him twice.

After a manhunt involving numerous agencies and the use of bloodhound dogs, Elliott was arrested and sentenced to 21 years in prison.
