Family still looking for answers in death of a Breathitt County woman

JACKSON, Ky. (WYMT) - Nearly four years after a Breathitt County woman was found dead at an abandoned mining site in Perry County, her family is still hoping information about how she died will surface.

Jessica Haddix Mullins would have been 33 years old yesterday.

Her family is still coping with her death, and they say they think she was murdered.

Jessica Haddix Mullins was last seen the night of April 26th, 2009.

Her body was discovered five days later.

Her mother says the pain of losing her child is something no parent should ever experience.

"It was the most horrifying thing that I've ever gone through, and I'm still going through it every day of my life. There's not a day passes by that I don't think of her," said Pattie Haddix, Jessica's mother.

A faded cross marks the location where Jessica's body was discovered more than three years ago. What has not faded since then is her family's desire for justice.

"After all this time, we thought something would be done, somebody would come forward. You know, there's tales that people know what happened, and nobody is coming forward," said Christy Haddix, Jessica's sister.

The family tells us they think Mullins was murdered and say that thought is hard to live with.

"It's not anything like it used to be, because everyone that I lived with does not live with me anymore. They're all gone," said Katie Haddix, Jessica's 15-year old daughter.

Family members we talked to say they can have no peace until Mullins' death is explained.

The family is asking anyone with information to contact police.
